PH HITS WALL AT NEW PAL

The Pendleton Heights Arabians boys’ varsity soccer team lost to the New Palestine Dragons, 5-1, in a league contest played Thursday.

Pendleton Heights traveled to New Palestine knowing that the Dragons had scored more goals and given up fewer goals than any HHC squad. The first half was good, hard-nosed soccer as NP jumped to a 1-0 lead.

PH evened the score 7 minutes into the second half on a penalty kick by Kyle Eby that resulted from a foul by a New Palestine player within the 7-yard line.

Three minutes later Chance Mahoney made a nice block of a NP shot-on-goal, but the ball rebounded off a post and off Mahoney as he tried to recover. Instead, the ball crossed the goal line to give NP a 2-1 lead.

That’s when the flood gates opened. The Dragons went on a scoring binge for the final, 5-1 victory.

Mahoney totaled 11 saves on 16 shots. PH, meanwhile, only garnered three shots-on-goal.

The Arabians finish the regular season 5-11 overall and 3-4 in the HHC. They will take on Hamilton Heights In the opening-round of the sectional Oct. 8 at Noblesville.
