PENDLETON
– The first three innings of 4A #4 Hamilton Southeastern’s softball
game at 4A #9 Pendleton Heights on April 25th can best be described as
missed opportunities.

The Royals stranded a total of 5
base-runners during the first three innings of action and found
themselves deadlocked in a scoreless tie with the host Arabians.

However
in the fourth inning, Southeastern finally took full advantage of its
opportunities, scoring three times en route to a 4-0 win over Pendleton
Heights. Click here to purchase pictures from this game!

Ashley
Nelson got the fourth inning scoring started for the Royals with an RBI
double which scored Caitlin Laughlin. Nelson would then score the
second run of the inning on an RBI single by Jenna Abraham. The
right-fielder Abraham, would later score herself on a Pendleton Heights
error to make the score 3-0.

The three-run lead was more than
enough for Hamilton Southeastern starting pitcher Taylor Rager.
Utilizing a paralyzing changeup, the sophomore pitched a complete-game
two-hitter and struck out six in helping the Royals to improve to 13-1.

Seven
Hamilton Southeastern batters recorded hits in the game, but junior
Devin Dearing was on the only one to have a multiple-hit game. Dearing
went 2 for 4 against the Arabians and drove in the team’s final run in
the seventh inning on an RBI single which scored Rager.

Pendleton
Heights’ biggest threat of the game came in the bottom of the sixth
inning when they had two base-runners reach safely with just one out in
a 3-0 game. However, Rager would buckle down, forcing both a groundout
and strikeout to get the Royals out of trouble.

Pendleton
Heights’ junior pitcher Lainie Dishroon took the loss, surrendering two
earned runs in three and a third innings of work. Casey Jamerson and
Halee Myers had the only two hits of the game for the Arabians, who
dropped to 14-4 on the season.
