Junior Varsity Football Team Pounds Highland to Close Season

The JV football Arabians overcame a scoreless first quarter to post a 42-0 win over the visiting Highland Scots. The defense was carried the team in the first stanza until the Arabian offense could get untracked. The Junior Arabians scored three times in rapid succession in the second quarter to take a 22-0 lead into the halftime.

Quarterback Evan Mohr got the Arabians on the board with a 1-yard run midway through the second quarter. Austin Earley caught the 2-point conversion pass from Mohr to push the score to 8-0. The Arabians were back again with a little more than a minute left in the half when Mohr hit Earley for a 35-yard pass on fourth-and-five from the Highland 35. Mohr again connected with Earley for the 2-point conversion. On the ensuing kickoff the Arabians recovered a Highland fumble. Mohr quickly struck paydirt, finding Phillip Holden behind the Scots defenders for a 29-yard touchdown pass.

In the second half the defense got into the scoring act as Phillip Holden came up hard from the cornerback position to force a Highland fumble on an end run. Michael Dawson recovered the ball in the endzone for the Arabians to push the score to 28-0. After the defense snuffed out consecutive Highland drives Mohr found Holden on a slant pass from the 10-yard line. The final score for the Arabians was compliments of Justin Borgman, who ripped off a 15-yard run and added a 2-point conversion run for good measure.

The shutout was the third in a row for the Arabian defense. In addition to Dawson’s fumble recovery, Joe Gipson grabbed two Highland fumbles and garnered a sack, while Borgman added one sack. The Arabian offense gained close to 300 yards in rushing and passing. Over the last five games, the Arabians outscored their opponents 190 to 18. The team finished the season with a 5-2 record on a five game winning streak.
