Junior Varsity Football Pushes Win Streak to Four

The Junior Varsity football team hit the road to defeat Rushville 56-0 Monday night. The defense snuffed out every Rushville drive and kept the Lions on their side of the 50-yard line for almost the entire contest. The Arabians racked up six sacks on the night, including one by Austin Aul for almost 20 yards. The JV defense has painted the last two opponents with shutouts. As they pushed their winning streak to four games the young Arabians have outscored their opponents 148-18.

On offense, the Arabians proved too much for the host Lions as they scored on their second play from scrimmage and never looked back. Grant Hendershot and Austin Earley teamed up for the first score as Hendershot took a lateral pass from Arabian quarterback Evan Mohr and completed the 45-yard toss to Earley streaking down the sideline. The Arabians struck again quickly on their second possession as Jacob Lyons ran 30 yards through a host of would-be Lion tacklers for a score. Mohr then found Hendershot open for a 32-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter before hitting Corbin Fowler for a 19-yard scoring pass to make the score 30-0 at the break.

In the second half, assistant coach Rick Ellsworth mixed up the plays and involved every running back and receiver in the offense as the Arabians continued to dominate.

PH scored on their opening second half drive with a 60-yard screen pass from Mohr to Earley. The catch and run was made possible by excellent line blocking by Stefan Slick, Joe Gipson, Kyle Babb, Logan Babb and Michael Dawson as well as outstanding downfield blocking by Fowler and Hendershot. To end the third quarter Mohr hit Ridge Widener for a 5-yard screen pass for a touchdown. Earley closed out the offensive scoring for the Arabians in the fourth quarter with a 45-yard TD run. Earley, Hendershot and Mohr each scored a pair of two-point conversions during the game.

Mike Wilkins defense was every bit as tough in the second half as the first and added a score of their own as Austin Aul trapped the Lions quarterback in his own end zone for a safety. The defensive line of Slick, Gipson, Prol and Dawson were rock solid. The

d-linemen were backed by a linebacker corps of Aul, Lyons, Justin Borgman and Trent Gaw who kept the Rushville running attack under control. The JV record is now 4-2. The Arabians host the Highland Scots next Monday to conclude their season.
