It is hard to believe, but the girls’ basketball season is
half over. The race for the Hoosier Heritage championship may be just heating
up. Three teams remain undefeated heading into the Christmas break That sets up
the potential for a very hot race in the second half despite the cold weather
outside.
Rushville crushed Delta 77-39 Saturday to move to 4-0 in the
conference and 8-1 overall. At that, they have not been able to shake
half with a 68-25 drubbing of non-conference foe Shenandoah. The victory left
as Rushville, 4-0 and 8-1.
The surprise at the top is in the form of New Palestine. The
Dragons downed
improve to 3-0 in the league. The final in that contest was 51-45. Overall, New
Palestine is only 4-4, but don’t let that fool you. The Dragons play a tough
early season schedule.
The remaining conference teams all have at least two losses
at the midway point.
The first key date in the race is January 17th.
On that night, Rushville will visit
new
home on the 24th.
Dragons on January 31st.
If you are looking for a spoiler, you may have a difficult
time finding one. Greenfield-Central is the other conference team standing
above .500 on the season. The Cougars are 6-4 on the campaign. However, they
have already lost to both of the top teams. They do have a date left with New
Palestine. That comes on January 17th.
